Chance's Status Update for 2024 Q2

Authors

A summary on Chance's work and life in Q2 2024. This is Status Update 2024 Q1 previously published on my China company's site chatek.co. From now on, I'm keeping this series on my personal blog.

Life: New friends in old neighborhood

My family finished yet another move to our OLD neighborhood in a NEW condo. The kid is happier and more active since the move frees us from commute, way easier to hang out with friends, and more activities became easy to pull off.

Work: transitioning myself into coaching

Thanks to my partner Javen Zheng's insights and inspiration. I've realized my previous role(s) with DuoNB core team(s) too blurry to incentivize myself to offer the best of me for this rising industry and communities.

I did the The 20 jobs I can do that others find valuable test, with my friends and close associates, and found that coaching by doing is probably the best overlap among What I love doing, What I'm good at, and What the world finds me valuable. So since late April, I started the deliberate pratice on designing, producing and distributing (video) contents on Youtube and WeChat Live (search for @villagecity).

After I did the pivot, I drew CLEAR lines between my own projects and my involvement in DuoNB communities (free) work. I still track DuoNB events and some lend-me-a-hand work with the core team(s), but in ways that the results shall also lead to clear financial returns for my tikolyDAO members.

We nailed a strategic partnership with Patrick Khor (Singapore), founder of World Degree, to pursue a very exciting startup that could help transforming and enabling ten thousands of Chinese mainland K12 students and tech/knowledge workers for the global jobs/businesses.

The thesis behind this startup,

  1. Drastic shifts in geo-politics and global supply chains are pushing more Chinese talents to join the global labor/talent markets in NEW and EXCITING ways;
  2. AI/LLM and blockchain tech are rapidly re-shaping how we live and work;
  3. What qualify us as productive and innovative talents for this new erea are yet to be explored and cultivated.

I'm even more motivated after my work scope pivot in late April. This edu startup idea and our Singaporean partnership fit right into my newly discovered focus of work/jobs.

Partners: DAO for core team, channels for community

  • CACTTC-DuoNB relationship fell out

    • In late March, I decidedly parted ways with CACTTC, China-Africa Center for Tech Transfer & Commercialization, led by Mohamad Ali Omer. CACTTC-DuoNB relationship didn't work out due to the lack of sustainable financial arrangement in the partnership. As a result, we lost our 1st show-room to a lasting dead office lease contract with the land-lord. But we remain friendly with Ali and would welcome him to re-join DuoNB community anytime and in ways he finds more comfortable and mutually beneficial.
  • Keeping up with PassivHaus (Re-Imagining Risk, Canada)

    • PassivHaus (Re-Imagining Risk, Canada), led by Jason Allyne, has made progress in new housing materials and project progress in Canada.I remain the liason between Jason and the DuoNB core team(s) in case they find each other helpful in future collaboration.

In summary, I made big steps in Q2 2024 to re-position myself and my team(s), all starting from me realizing and focusing on my best leverage skill set and talents. Making myself and my own team(s) sustainable financially remain the No. 1 priority among our goals and objectives.

I can't wait to emark on my Q3 and Q4 journey for the rest of 2024, as I reached out more to SEA countries' partners, Web3 investors/founders and a more focused life and work style.
